Abstract: Professor Lisa Hall describes how Cambridge is using synthetic biology to design a pathway from gene to diagnostic to produce a novel ‘self-packaging’ robust NAT reagent locally without significant resources. This is expected to allow sustained improvement in healthcare, while also developing the local economy.  It is nearly ready to deploy in the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), Ghana as part of a collaborative project to test for malaria in clinical samples.
